I seem to be well behind some people on this, but the Strokes have got a new song doing the rounds called Juice Box. The video was shown last night on Channel 4, but for people like me who missed it there and haven't heard it yet might want to mosy over to the recommendable Filter Magazine and have a listen.
Actually having a look around, I see that Jo Whiley had it as a record of the week back in October and the song was available from the Strokes's website back in September.
Ho hum - finger on the musical pulse here.
However, I've wrote this now and I'm going to post it anyway. Opinions on the track/prospects of the album out in 2006 anyone?

I have always strongly strongly hated The Strokes. Never liked anything they have put out before. Nonetheless, I still went to the website to have a listen to this track back in September, because it was recommended to me, because you never know, and because it was free. I think this is the best Strokes song ever ever by a million cubic tons of mile. Still won't buy the album (I mean, it's The bloody Strokes, come on...) but considering The Strokes face the major disadvantage of ABSOLUTELY SUCKING, this track is an utter masterpiece. I actually would go so far as to say I quite like it. Who would have thought?
The Babyshambles CD arrived today. Still not sure yet - too early to form much of an opinion, but it is certainly great in places - will get back to you.
Ps, The Strokes suck.
Eek, that's pretty harsh stuff there James. I knew you didn't particularly like them, but I didn't realise that the hatred ran quite so deep.
I'm not a Huge Strokes fan, but after an initial resistance due to the large amount of hype and their stupid jeans, I have grown to enjoy their stuff.
I'm kinda liking this song, not so much for the actual music of the track, which I think I'll have to wait and see whether it grows on me, but rather that it seems to suggest they've found another direction that, whilst no doubt the Strokes, hints at some kind of musical evolution. However, I'm guessing you don't really care about that.
And keep me posted on the Babyshambles - I'm going to base my whole decision on whether to request it for Christmas or not on your recommendation.
