Mark Kermode Film Reviews

I'm a big fan of Mark Kermode's film reviews - especially when he's a-ranting, like today against Elizabethtown. And the great thing is if you've missed it on Simon Mayo's Friday show on 5Live, you can listen to it again, or Podcast it, here.

Elizabethtown does sound like a prize turkey, maybe even up there with Revolver. I'm quite taken with Peter Bradshaw's review of it in the Guardian today: I especially like the phrase 'an unending nightmare of life-affirming laughter and tears.' Bradshaw is truly a man after my own heart.

I think we can all agree without too much difficulty on this, even though (I assume) none of us have actually seen the film. Clearly an avoid-like-plague. Or like Love Actually (sorry Gary, but I have to say those words to you as often as possible, it's a red-rag-to-bull necessity).

I think I might watch Love Actually again so that I can top-up on my hate for it - it's not that my dislike for it is waning, but rather I'm starting to forget what made me quite so angry about it in the first place.
